The Department has been part of Idaho’s story for a long time. When we first got started back in 1905, we regulated just one industry: banking. At that time, there were 78 banks in the state with about $14 million in combined assets. Fast‑forward to today, and things look very different. We now license and regulate fifteen industries and oversee more than 195,000 entities. The banking industry alone holds over $29.5 billion in assets. Through all that growth, one thing hasn’t changed, we’re fully funded by the industries we regulate, not by tax dollars, and we stay committed to serving Idahoans with professionalism and integrity.
